We offer RO as a standalone treatment where a plan for the resulting concentrate is already in place, or as part of a wider Chromafora treatment train. **What RO does well – and the trade-off to plan for**  RO uses semi-permeable membranes to reject dissolved contaminants, including PFAS across the full chain-length spectrum, and can achieve high overall removal efficiency across a wide range of PFAS compounds. The trade-off is what happens to everything RO removes. Rather than destroying contaminants, RO concentrates them into a reject stream that typically represents 15–30% of the treated volume – carrying not only PFAS but also the salts, metals and organics removed from the water. That concentrate still requires further treatment, destruction or disposal, and membrane fouling in complex, high-strength leachate needs to be actively managed. ## Key considerations for landfill leachate applications ### Concentration of co-contaminants Salts, metals and organics are concentrated alongside PFAS into the reject stream. ### Membrane fouling Complex leachate can foul membranes, requiring pretreatment and careful operation. ### Energy demand Membrane systems require meaningfully more energy than gravity- or adsorption-based processes. ### Reject disposal cost The concentrated reject stream requires further handling, destruction or disposal. ## Where it fits #### **Polishing step** Placed after flocculation or SELPAXT, reducing the upstream fouling load and improving membrane performance and lifespan. #### **Standalone treatment** Where broad-spectrum removal is the priority and a plan for concentrate destruction is already in place. #### **Paired with SELPAXT** SELPAXT can further concentrate an RO reject stream, reducing the volume that ultimately requires destruction. ## Do you want to know if RO is the right fit?
